Definition of "Fossil Fuels" and "Petroleum"
Fossil fuels are formed in the ground from the remains of dead plants and animals. It takes millions of years to form fossil fuels. Oil, natural gas, and coal are fossil fuels. (www.atniedc.com/programs/Energy/glossary.htm)
Petroleum is a generic term applied to oil and oil products in all forms, such as crude oil, lease condensate, unfinished oils, petroleum products, natural gas plant liquids, and non-hydrocarbon compounds blended into finished petroleum products. (www.natsource.com/markets/index.asp)
I plan on using petroleum and oil interchangeably in subsequent posts.
